The good news is that most STD testing methods are minimally invasive and generally well-tolerated. Blood tests, similar to routine blood draws, might involve a slight prick in the arm. Urine tests are familiar and involve collecting a urine sample in a cup. While not entirely painless, the discomfort is brief and manageable.
Swab tests, used to collect samples from the genitals, might cause some mild discomfort. A thin swab is inserted a short distance into the vagina or urethra to collect a cell sample. While some might experience a ticklish sensation or slight burning, it's usually brief and shouldn't be a deterrent for getting tested.
