What to Expect Before and After Microneedling?
Before undergoing Microneedling, a consultation with a licensed practitioner is essential to ensure that the treatment is appropriate for your skin type and concerns. During this consultation, your practitioner will assess your skin and may recommend pre-treatment guidelines, such as avoiding sun exposure, certain skincare products, or medications that can increase sensitivity. On the day of the treatment, a topical numbing cream will typically be applied to the area being treated to minimize discomfort. The microneedling procedure itself usually lasts between 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the treatment area and the severity of the skin concerns being addressed.
After microneedling, the skin may appear slightly red or flushed, similar to a mild sunburn, and this typically subsides within 24 to 48 hours. There may also be mild swelling or tightness in the skin. Most people experience little to no downtime, although it’s advisable to avoid direct sun exposure and refrain from using harsh skincare products for a few days after treatment. The skin may also feel dry or slightly rough as it begins to heal and regenerate. Results from microneedling can begin to show within a few days to a week as the collagen-building process starts, with the most noticeable improvements appearing after several weeks or months. To maintain results, it's essential to follow aftercare instructions and avoid picking at the skin during the healing process.
