With pediatric telemedicine, the young patient can see and talk to their doctor, if they are talking, without having to leave the comfort of their home. This can make the appointment far less stressful, for both the child and the parent. A pediatric telemedicine consultation happens over a secure connection, with the patient staying at home, or wherever they are, and the doctor conversing from their office or a location of their choosing. There are different types of telemedicine consultations, depending on the condition being discussed. An appointment can take place over the phone or through a video conference call similar to Zoom or Teams. The appointment itself is treated the same as it would be if done in person, with the doctor asking a series of questions about the child’s health and wellbeing, what symptoms they are experiencing, and anything that the parents have noticed about the child’s health. If using a video conferencing solution, the doctor will be able to observe certain aspects of the child’s condition to either provide a diagnosis or recommend them to alternative healthcare professional for further testing or consultation.
