Recovery After a Facelift
Facelift surgery is an outpatient procedure, but recovery takes time and dedication. Here's a general overview of what to expect in the days and weeks following your facelift:
- The First Few Days: Immediately after surgery, you'll likely experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort around the treated areas. Your doctor will provide pain medication and specific instructions for managing these side effects. A drainage tube might be placed to remove excess fluids, which will be removed within a day or two. You'll need to wear a compression garment to support your face and minimize swelling. Rest is crucial during this initial phase, with your head elevated to promote healing and reduce puffiness.
- Weeks 1-4: As the swelling subsides, you'll gradually start to see the results of your facelift. Stitches will be removed within a week or two, and you can return to most daily activities, avoiding strenuous exercise. Bruising should fade significantly by the fourth week. It's important to protect your face from sun exposure during this time, as UV rays can hinder healing and cause scarring. Discomfort should also continue to improve, but some numbness around the incision areas is common and may take several months to resolve completely.
