What Happens during a Dental Crown Procedure?
During a dental crown procedure, your oral care provider begins by examining the tooth that requires the crown and preparing it for treatment. X-rays of the tooth and surrounding bone are taken to assess the condition thoroughly. Subsequently, the tooth is filed down to create the necessary space for the crown. The extent of filing varies depending on the type of crown you'll be receiving; for instance, metal crowns require less tooth removal compared to porcelain crowns. In certain cases, a root canal might be necessary if there is a risk of infection, tooth decay, or damage to the tooth's nerves or blood vessels (also known as pulp).
