What Are the Causes of Osteoporosis and How Can It Be Avoided?
Osteoporosis primarily results from an imbalance between Bone Resorption (break-down) and Bone Formation, leading to a decrease in Bone density. Several factors contribute to the development of Osteoporosis, including age, genetics, hormonal changes, and lifestyle choices. As people age, bone density naturally decreases, particularly after menopause in women due to the reduction in estrogen levels, which plays a role in maintaining Bone strength. Additionally, men are also at risk, although they generally experience Osteoporosis later in life and at lower rates than women. Genetics also plays a significant role; those with a family history of osteoporosis or fractures are more likely to develop the condition themselves.
