At What Week of Pregnancy Can Early Gender Determination Be Performed?

Early Gender determination through ultrasound can typically be performed around the 12th week of pregnancy. At this stage, the genitalia are usually developed enough for a trained technician to distinguish between male and female. However, the accuracy of gender prediction at this early stage may vary depending on the baby's position, the clarity of the ultrasound image, and the skill of the technician. The earlier the ultrasound, the higher the chance of the baby being in a position that makes gender determination difficult.

For more reliable results, Gender Determination is often performed between 16 and 20 weeks of pregnancy, during the routine mid-pregnancy anatomy scan. By this time, the external genitalia are more developed, making it easier to accurately identify the baby's gender. Advances in non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) also allow for gender determination as early as the 10th week of pregnancy through blood tests, offering an additional option for early detection without the need for ultrasound.
