What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are one of several treatment options available to patients who have suffered from tooth loss for one reason or another. There are several factors that can contribute to tooth loss and cause an individual to investigate dental implants as one of their options for replacing their missing teeth. Individuals can lose teeth due to injury, periodontal disease or tooth decay. Dental implants provide a much more natural looking, comfortable, permanent solution than previous options such as bridges or dentures.

With dental implants, patients have a rod inserted into their mouth that acts as a new tooth root. A permanent or removable tooth that has been built to match the rest of your teeth is then mounted on to the implant in place of a tooth that has been lost. The result is a strong, sturdy tooth that blends in with the rest of your teeth and doesn't shift around or move while talking, eating or doing any type of physical activity. Dental implants provide patients with increased self-confidence due to the natural look and feel of their new tooth. Care and cleaning of a dental implant is the same as natural teeth, with no special cleaning needed.
