What Is the Difference Between Invisalign and Braces?
Braces have been around for decades with many adults today having experienced them at some point during their teenage years in order to straighten their teeth or fix a misalignment in the jaw. Braces are easily recognized for their metal brackets that are cemented onto the front face of each tooth and connected by a wire that runs through the brackets from one side of the tooth arch to the other side. The wire is pulled taut to provide pressure onto the teeth causing them to slowly shift and move, so that they eventually straighten out. This process typically takes about 2 years, with monthly appointments to tighten the wire as the teeth shift to ensure pressure is always applied. Invisalign uses clear trays that are placed over the teeth to provide the same effect, without the obvious metal hardware showing on the front of the teeth. While both provide the same end result, Invisalign is often the treatment of choice for adults who don't want unsightly brackets and wires on their teeth.
