What Are the Symptoms of Influenza?
Influenza, commonly known as the flu, presents with a range of symptoms that can vary in severity. The most common symptoms include a sudden onset of fever, chills, body aches, and fatigue. These are often accompanied by a sore throat, cough, and a runny or stuffy nose. Headaches and eye pain may also occur, and some individuals, particularly children, might experience gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. The symptoms typically appear abruptly and can be more severe than those of the common cold.
Influenza symptoms can last for several days to a week or more, with the most severe symptoms generally occurring in the first 2 to 3 days. It's important to note that not everyone with influenza will have a fever. In some cases, the illness can lead to complications such as pneumonia, especially in vulnerable populations like the elderly, young children, or individuals with underlying health conditions. If symptoms are severe or persist, medical attention should be sought to prevent further complications.
