How Does BHRT Work?

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) works by supplementing the body’s hormone levels with hormones that are chemically identical to those produced naturally. This method is used primarily to alleviate symptoms associated with hormonal imbalances or declines in hormone production, particularly during menopause, perimenopause, andropause, and other hormone-related disorders. BHRT aims to restore hormone levels to their more youthful balance, thus alleviating symptoms and improving the overall quality of life. Unlike traditional hormone therapies that use synthetic hormones, the bioidentical hormones in BHRT have the same molecular structure as the hormones that the body naturally produces, which may lead to better absorption and fewer side effects.

The administration of BHRT can vary depending on the individual’s needs and the type of hormone used. Common forms include creams, patches, pills, injections, or pellet implants that release hormones slowly over time. As hormones are absorbed into the body, they begin to function as the endogenous hormones, helping regulate and maintain various bodily functions that were affected by hormonal decline or imbalance, such as sleep cycles, mood fluctuations, metabolism, and reproductive processes.
