How Long Does Eyelid Surgery Take?
The duration of eyelid surgery can vary depending on the complexity of the procedure and whether both upper and lower eyelids are being addressed. Typically, the surgery takes about one to three hours to complete. If a patient is having both eyelids corrected, it may take closer to the upper range of this timeframe. The procedure is generally performed as an outpatient service, meaning patients can go home the same day after the effects of anesthesia wear off. During the procedure, patients are usually under local anesthesia combined with sedation, or general anesthesia, based on the extent of the surgery and the surgeon's recommendation. The precise nature of the surgery, whether it involves skin removal, fat repositioning, or muscle tightening, will also influence the time spent in the operating room. After the surgery, patients spend a short period in a recovery room where they are monitored before being allowed to go home.
