A DOT Physical Exam typically takes between 30 minutes to an hour to complete, depending on the complexity of the individual’s medical history and the thoroughness of the examination. The exam begins with the patient filling out a health history questionnaire, which the medical examiner will review. This is followed by a series of physical checks, including measurements of height, weight, blood pressure, vision, and hearing, as well as an evaluation of the cardiovascular, respiratory, and neurological systems.
After the physical examination, the medical examiner will discuss any findings with the patient and determine whether they meet the DOT’s health standards. If additional tests or documentation are needed, this may extend the time required to complete the process. Once the exam is finished, and if the patient passes, they will receive a medical certificate that is typically valid for up to two years, depending on their health status.
