What Is Included in an Annual Physical Exam?

A physical exam will help your doctor determine how your body is performing. You may be advised by your doctor to focus on certain areas based on your health history. For example, if your family has a history of heart disease, you may receive more blood pressure checks, blood tests, and diabetes and cholesterol screenings. It is also an opportunity for your doctor to discuss future prevention measures based on the results of the test, your age, and your personal health history during the exam.

What Are the Conditions That Would Require Medical Clearance?

Certain medical conditions may pose more risk for physical activity, employment, surgery, and other causes for medical clearance than others. Which conditions will require medical clearance depends on the circumstances for which it would be requested. For instance, when evaluating an athlete or a worker's physical suitability cardiac conditions may be considered. Significant chronic illnesses such as asthma, eye disorders, major organ illness, and more can also be causes for medical clearance as they may pose significant health risks.
