Tooth Extraction is a Dental procedure in which a Tooth is removed from its socket in the Jawbone. This may be necessary for a variety of reasons, including severe Tooth decay, advanced Periodontal disease, Overcrowding or Trauma. In some cases, a tooth may need to be extracted before Orthodontic treatment, such as braces, to make space for the remaining teeth to align properly. Wisdom Teeth, the third set of molars that often emerge during late adolescence or early adulthood, are another common reason for extractions, especially if they become impacted or cause infection.
The Extraction procedure can be performed under local Anesthesia, where the area around the Tooth is numbed or, in more complex cases, general anesthesia may be used. The Dentist or oral surgeon will carefully loosen the tooth from the socket and remove it, taking care to minimize damage to the surrounding gum tissue and bone. After the Extraction, patients are advised to follow proper aftercare instructions to reduce the Risk of Infection and promote healing. This may include avoiding hard foods, applying ice to reduce swelling and taking prescribed Pain relievers.
In some cases, a follow-up Appointment may be scheduled to ensure the area is Healing properly. For missing Teeth, a Dental implant, Bridge or Denture may be recommended as a long-term Solution.
Invisalign is a modern Orthodontic Treatment that uses a series of Clear, custom-made Aligners to straighten Teeth and correct various Alignment issues. Unlike traditional braces, which use Metal brackets and wires, Invisalign aligners are made from a transparent, medical-grade plastic that is nearly invisible, making them a discreet option for those seeking Orthodontic care. Invisalign works by gradually shifting teeth into their ideal positions through the use of a sequence of Aligners, each designed to make slight adjustments. Each set of Aligners is typically worn for about one to two weeks before moving on to the next set, with the Aligners gently applying pressure to specific teeth to guide them into place.
The treatment process starts with a digital scan of the Patient's teeth, which creates a 3D Model used to plan the entire Alignment process. Using this model, a Dentist or Orthodontist designs a custom Treatment plan, mapping out the movement of each tooth over the course of the treatment. Patients are generally required to wear their Aligners for 20-22 hours per day, only removing them for Eating, Drinking (other than water), Brushing and Flossing. Regular check-ups, usually every 6-8 weeks, help ensure the Treatment is progressing as planned.
By the end of the Treatment, which typically takes 12-18 months depending on the complexity of the case, Invisalign can correct issues like Overcrowding, Spacing, crossbite and Overbite, providing an effective and aesthetically pleasing alternative to traditional Braces.
