After suffering for years with knee pain I decided to have knee surgery. I researched different doctors and found Dr Gautach. Had right knee surgery in October 2023 and the left knee in February 2024. I am now walking without pain. My knees are strong and smooth when I walk. The staff at Southern Sports Medicine are always very helpful and friendly. Dr Gautach explained the procedure and answered questions i had. If you are considering knee surgery in highly recommend him.

I had my first appointment with Dr. Gautsch in August, 2023. I had tried shots, physical therapy and gel shots. None really helped my right knee. I decided to have a total knee replacement, and it was done in early December 2023. I had absolutely no problems! I walked out of the surgery center on a walker and only used it once when I got home. Three days later I walked into Dr. Gautsch’s office for my first physical therapy appointment. Physical therapy here was phenomenal. Amy and Heather are great! Everyone in the office is so positive. Nurse Ashley was so helpful answering any questions. My friends and family are so impressed with my progress. I highly recommend Dr. Gautsch and his staff. You won’t regret it!

I’m 8 weeks post-op from my knee replacement and am ecstatic with the results! After over 2 years of pain, 2 arthroscopies, PRP, gel injections, etc at my former orthopedist I was frustrated and feeling I had no other options. I met with Dr. Gautsch one time for a consultation. After a week of consideration, I scheduled the surgery. By the end of week 5, I was able to be more active and had less pain than before surgery. The end of week 6 I hikes over 8 miles with my dogs. I continue to improve and and feel like I have my life back!! Dr. Gautsch and staff were terrific!!

Doctor Gautsch and the staff at Southern Sports Medicine have changed my life in 2022. First a total knee replacement, then a referral to a great hand specialist for bi-lateral carpal surgery and lastly surgery on my left shoulder to repair rotator cuff tears, a labrum tear and arthritic spurs. My pain was minimal and my recovery has been fantastic. I now sleep at night and enjoy a lifestyle that I haven’t had in years. All I can say is Thank You!

I thoroughly researched knee replacement surgeons before choosing Dr. Gautsch. His procedures made sense to me and reviews were very positive. From consultation to post-op, he and the staff were amazing. The facilities are first class, and I felt totally at ease the entire time. Since I live in Knoxville, I was allowed to do my PT locally. My therapist was amazed at my level of progress and commented that I was "months ahead" of traditional TKR patients. She is a big fan of Dr. Gautsch and his work. In short, I whole heartedly recommend Dr. Gautsch and his team!

My experience with Dr. Gautsch is one of sincere gratitude for the care and concern he showed me from initial diagnosis through PT. I had a full knee replacement and followed direction that included walking out of the surgery center the same day, taking meds as prescribed and icing after PT. I would and do recommend this office and staff to anyone needing knee surgery. They are the best. They did both of my knees and I live in Florida. The whole staff from front office to PT department is great. If you anywhere near them it is worth the trip.

Have had many interactions with Southern Sports Medicine Institute and have always had nothing but the best results. The staff there has treated multiple members of my family with great results every time. My resent surgery was no different. Change isn't always a bad thing. I was scheduled to have double Carpal Tunnel surgery with another doctor in the group when I was told that a new surgeon was assigned to my surgery. I was a little worried as I was very familiar with the other surgeon. After meeting with Dr. Schaheen I was immediately put at ease. She is extremely confident and really able to explain the procedure. Everything went like clockwork, what she said would happen did, the recovery was extremely fast and the follow up made me feel like she was vested in my recovery. Dr. Gautsch and his team are absolutely amazing!! I was surprised on my visit to find out i had re-torn my ACL, and feared the worst! Dr. Gautsch assured me that he would have me back on my feet in no time, and honestly I was. Outpatient surgery, and excellent care is what i received from Dr. Gautsch and Team. I was virtually pain free after surgery, with just some minor things here and there along the way. I am proud to say that my surgery was 2 months ago, and with the guidance of his excellent Physical Therapy Team i am feeling better then ever, and able to be up and around enjoying time with my kids! What i also loved about my visits to Southern Sports Medicine is how nice and caring all the staff are...you can truly tell that they absolutely care about you as a patient! So if you are looking for an excellent Docter. backed by an amazing team i would highly recommend Dr. Gautsch and the Southern Sports Medicine Team...I am beyond blessed to have chosen them to take care of me!!

After months of decreased activity due to knee pain I went to see Dr. Gautsch. He conducted a thorough and informative examine and ordered an MRI. I had a torn meniscus and he performed a meniscectomy(partial removal of meniscus). I was able to stand right in the recovery room. Dr. Gautsch and entire staff gave me complete post-op instructions. I started physical therapy 5 days after surgery. After 2 weeks, I was able to walk, bike, garden, resume all normal activity. I highly recommend anyone having knee pain go see Dr. Gautsch and the great staff at Southern Sports Medicine. They will have you back to enjoying life in no time.

The entire office is comprised of very kind medical professionals. I was always treated with respect and able to ask questions without feeling rushed or bullied. Dr Gautsch is a highly trained, experienced and kind man. My shoulder is still on the mend but I expect an almost full recovery due to the incredible staff at the Portland Physical Therapy location. Those ladies rock! 100 % recommend these offices!
