What Are the Symptoms of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome?
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) presents with a constellation of symptoms that can be quite debilitating. The most prominent symptom is burning pain, often described as intense and out of proportion to the initial injury. This pain typically affects one limb, most commonly the hand, arm, foot, or lower leg.
Along with the burning pain, CRPS can cause swelling, stiffness, and changes in skin texture and temperature. The affected limb may feel swollen and tight, with limited range of motion. The skin can become shiny, thin, and develop abnormal color variations, often appearing red, blotchy, or pale. In some cases, there may even be changes in nail and hair growth on the affected limb. These symptoms can significantly impact daily activities and require prompt medical evaluation to diagnose and manage CRPS effectively.
