What Are the Common Symptoms of Generalized Anxiety Disorder?

The symptoms of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) can vary from person to person but generally include both physical and emotional manifestations of anxiety. Common symptoms include excessive worry or fear about everyday events, even when there is little to no reason for concern. People with GAD may also experience restlessness, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and irritability. Physically, symptoms may include muscle tension, headaches, sweating, dizziness, and sleep disturbances such as insomnia or disturbed sleep patterns. These symptoms can interfere with daily activities and make it difficult for individuals to focus, relax, or enjoy daily tasks.

In addition to the psychological Symptoms, individuals with GAD often report feeling a sense of impending doom or irrational fear, even in situations that should not be stressful. Sleep difficulties are also very common, as individuals may lie awake worrying about various issues. As the anxiety becomes more chronic, the physical symptoms may intensify, leading to further distress and even physical health complications, such as digestive problems or chronic headaches. For diagnosis, these symptoms must be present for at least six months and occur more days than not.
